Felting needles are wonderful little tools that have many uses to the natural fibre, doll and craft artist. A felting needle is a metal pin with tiny barbs on one end and when inserted into the wool fibres repeatedly; the needle causes the fibres to matt together. 

Working with a felting needle is a technique of felting the fibres together without water, soap or anything else. Just wool and a barbed needle and your imagination. You can create animals, people or clothing.

A felting needle allows you to root fibres and fancy threads into the scalp of a cloth doll for hair. Simply lay out the doll hair in the place you want it and poke the felting needle in and out of the fabric. Please do take extreme care as these needles can give quite a nasty bite when you are not paying attention... the felting needle will catch the fibre and root it into the fabric.

The needles are also used for dry wool felting, known as waterless wool felting. Beautiful animals and dolls can be created by shaping felting fleece then poking the wool with the felting needle. This allows you to add new colours and fine details.
